I agree that in many instances you can get reasonable conclusions. I just prefer not to deal with the potential objections/difficulties. However, in an instance of my work with Steve Shafer (COST B1 1997 - details never published), categorical analysis did show insights/knowledge that we would not get if data were treated as categorical. If that would be of value, maybe I should try to convince Steve that it is worthwhile to finish the paper. ;-) Chuanpu
