books/courses for learning popPK, PK/PD

From: Magyar Gabriella Date: February 02, 2024 event
Dear NMUsers, I would like to learn popPK (and PK/PD in the long-term) to a level to be able to build models on my own. Now I'm on the level that I mostly understand the models built by others. Could you please propose books or courses you found useful for this goal? We have the Gabrielsson & Weiner Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Data Analysis, Concepts and Applications. Some have proposed the Owen & Fiedler-Kelly Introduction to Population Pharmacokinetic / Pharmacodynamic Analysis with Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models, which I have not read yet. I already participated on the Sheiner/Rowland Advanced PK-PD Course in Waldhaus Sils, Switzerland and found it really useful, but I would need more details. We are located in Europe, so please do not propose US courses. Any suggestion would be welcome. Thank you for your help in advance. Dear Gabriella, you may be interested to know that Certara will shortly be making Gabrielsson and Weiner's book freely available in electronic format. Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Data Analysis eBook https://www.certara.com/pharmacokinetic-and-pharmacodynamic-data-analysis-ebook/ Through our training site we offer both pre-recorded e.g. Certara University | (101-OD-CERT) Introduction to Population Modeling Using Phoenix NLME Certification Course | https://www.certarauniversity.com/store/3590819-101-od-cert-introduction-to-population-modeling-using-phoenix-nlme-certification-course-e-learning and 'live online' Certification Courses Pricing and Registration | https://www.certara.com/resources/certification-program/certification-courses-pricing-and-registration/ that start from the basics and work their way up to more complicated topics, the focus being on using Phoenix's NLME engine but of course the theory is agnostic. There is also a wealth of other content both paid for and free through our sites so this offers you a lot of flexibility, if you prefer not to use the Phoenix graphical interface you can also access the NLME engine via R speaks NLME (RsNLME) | https://www.certara.com/software/r-speaks-nlme-rsnlme/ I hope this information is useful, I'm in the UK if you want to talk in EU timezone. Best Regards, Simon DAVIS Manager, Support Please follow threads of interest on the Phoenix user forum. https://support.certara.com/forums/topic/1403-follow-for-latest-phoenix-release-information/?p=6449

Hi Gabriella, You may want to try the workshops provided by the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences - University at https://pharmacy.buffalo.edu/news-events/events/annual-events/pharmaco-courses.html https://pharmacy.buffalo.edu/news-events/events/annual-events/pharmaco-courses.html Buffalo Pharmacometric https://pharmacy.buffalo.edu/news-events/events/annual-events/pharmaco-courses.html The University at Buffalo Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers these specialized pharmacometric courses each spring. pharmacy.buffalo.edu There are 3 different sessions. Session 1 is an introductory training on how to perform a PMx analysis in NONMEM. If you are trying to better understand the guiding principles to apply when building a PK or PK/PD model, Session 2 is probably what you are looking for. It provides a very thorough review of the different types of PK and PK/PD model structure and their specificities and operating characteristics. Historically, a lot of material was covered so it is quite dense... but highly recommended. Sebastien Bihorel
