Date: Fri, 26 Aug 2005 17:04:28 +0000 Hi Group, Can someone help me with the following issue: I installed the Compaq Visual Fortran standard edition 6.6 on my pc. After which I typed "df" in the MS-DOS prompt to get the compiler information and it gives me an error message saying that 'df' is not a recognized as an internal or external command. However when I opened the Fortran command prompt and typed the same command "df" it works there and I get the basic complier information. I do not understand why it is not working the same from the MS-Dos prompt, any ideas. Alternatively, can I just install the NONMEM software from the Frotran command prompt. Please share your thoughts, Phill

Click on "Advanced", then "Environment variables". You can add the path to either the system PATH environment variable or the user PATH environment variable, mine is in the system PATH for my installation it is: C:\Fortran Compiler\DF98\BIN you'll also need ;C:\Fortran Compiler\Common\MSDEV98\BIN\;C:\Fortran Compiler\VC98\BIN\;C:\Fortran Compiler\Common\TOOLS\ to get the libraries and the link command. I think that you may have had the option at installation to have the installation script append this to your path. The reason it works in the Fortran MSDOS windows is that that window sets the local PATH environment variable when it opens. It won't work to just install the NM file from the Fortran command prompt NMFE5 needs this path every time it runs. Date: Sat, 27 Aug 2005 05:30:46 +1200 Phil, This sounds very much like you do not the df.exe in your DOS path. When the Windows command prompt starts it sets the path. Typically when you start the Fortran command prompt it arranges to call dfvars.bat to set the path and other environment variables. You need to do this when you start your Windows command prompt that uses NONMEM. If none of this makes sense to you then it may indeed be easiest to simply run NONMEM from the Fortran command prompt.
