*Closing Date for Applications: *Midnight (UK time), Sunday 11th October 2015 *Line of Management: *VP of R&D *Position Type: *Full Time *Holiday Entitlement: *25 days, plus statutory bank holidays *Salary: *£75,000 - £90,000 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience (plus discretionary bonus, contributory pension scheme, private health care *etc.*) *Location:* Sheffield, UK *Job Overview:* We have an immediate opening for a highly motivated scientist with a modelling and simulation background who wishes to combine scientific excellences, innovations and advanced technologies to develop high impact tools in the field of biosimulation for the benefit of patients. The appointed individual will lead an established multi-disciplinary team of scientists (10+) within the larger R&D group, who are active in various aspects of *in-vitro* *in-vivo* extrapolation and mechanistic physiologically based pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics (PBPK/PD) modelling covering both small and larger molecules by applying top-down as well as bottom-up modelling techniques. The role requires scientific leadership and the supervision and management of various projects on advanced modelling and simulation of absorption, distribution, metabolism, transport and excretion processes in human and animal species. Prior experience of predicting efficacy and safety of drugs and drug candidates in virtual patient populations is an advantage. The candidate is expected to mentor and scientifically support the M&S team, keep abreast of the latest scientific developments and actively engage with key opinion leaders within industry, academia and regulatory agencies. A track record of communicating modelling activities and delivering lectures in international professional meetings is a requirement. The successful candidate will foster close collaboration and coordination with other science teams including the translational science and systems pharmacology groups and other colleagues within Certara and promote cross-function interactions. As the head of M&S s/he is also expected to actively plan and execute internal and external educational activities including leveraging international model-informed drug development workshops and client site visits. The role also involves active interaction with the software development team, devising software testing strategies, and providing inputs into the software architecture and design of the Simcyp Simulators. *Requirements*: *Essential * - PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, computational biology, control or chemical engineering or related fields with more than 7 years of hands-on experience in model-based drug development; - Proven record of developing, managing and delivering projects involving complex multi-dimensional dynamic models; - Established track record of publications in high impact factor journals and being recognised among peers in the pharmaceutical modelling field; - In depth knowledge of common tools for systems pharmacology such as Simcyp, Phoenix, R, MATLAB, etc.; - Excellent record of communication skills, as evident by presentation at various scientific meetings, and exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills; - Proven record of successful managing of a multidisciplinary group of scientists. *Desirable* - In depth awareness of pharmaceutical R&D; - Well-informed about the FDA, European and Japanese regulatory guidance on application of M&S; - Working knowledge of PopPK/PD modelling, clinical trial simulation and optimal design, disease progression modelling, model based meta-analyses, etc.; - Familiarity with various in vitro ADME methodologies. *Company Overview:* Simcyp is part of Certara, a company which combines sophisticated research and development informatics with the power of predictive science methodologies to span the drug development spectrum and offer pharma a previously unavailable ‘end-to-end’ solution in the quest for improving human health.
