"Extra file" option in XPOSE

I tried to read 18 columns via $INPUT in NONMEM and 10 more by creating a new file. I made a new file in EXCEL containing the rest (10 columns) of the covariate information and tried to save it as "EXTRA311" (as TAB delimited file). The new file in EXCEL contains the same format as other files as mentioned in XPOSE manual. It did not recognise this file. How to make this work?
