Otherwise comparison of objective functions can be misleading. Model with R2 and model 2 are not equivalent in terms of the modeling process, OF, etc., but once you have the solution, the models are equivalent (R1 computed from R2 and from model 2 are identical if the values of the model parameters are the same).
