FORTRAN compilers on Pentium machines
Really depends on computer RAM and other applications you want to run:
OS/2 2.1: Probabaly best if computer memory <=16Mb. Fortran apps can be
run using the free GNU f2c fortran pre-processor and gcc compilers
available using anonymous ftp to ftp-os2.nmsu.edu at New Mexico State
Univ. OS/2 runs DOS, Win 3.1 and (of course, if you can find them) OS/2
apps very well.
Windows NT 3.1 (1.0? :)) w/ service pack available at ftp.microsoft.com:
Probably best if computer memory >=16Mb (a real memory buster).
PowerStation Fortran from MS can make 32 bit apps, and some nmusers have
been giving tips via this forum for several months (thanks alison!). GNU
software as above is available on a CD from a company called Concurrent
(I think).
See
topic 2
for discussion of Powerstation compiler options
If you prefer a commercial Fortran compiler, I've had good luck with
Microway products. They also make compilers for other Intel operating
systems (DOS, Unix, etc). The only # I have is old, but should still
work: (508)746-7341.
Any one try to run NONMEM on a PowerMac yet? Bought one last week, and
it is one fast son-of-a-gun.
