This is the second announcement for the 16th Fisher/Shafer NONMEM Workshop
with PLT Tools. The course will be held in San Francisco, California, from
Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 (Happy Halloween!) through Saturday, November
3rd, 2012. The course description and registration details can be accessed

coming up in less than 2 months, so interested attendees should register and
make their travel plans soon.
This is an intermediate-to-advanced course on the use of the NONMEM System,
closely integrated with the PLT Tools graphical user interface for the
NONMEM System. Although the focus of the workshop is NONMEM, the more
advanced diagnostics (e.g., visual predictive check, log-likelihood
profiling, bootstrap analysis, jackknife validation) and automation (e.g.,
automated covariate searching, analysis automation, and report automation)
are presented in the context of PLT Tools. PLT Tools supports both NMFE and
NMQUAL. Graphics can be produced from PLT Tools extensive graphics options.
XPOSE graphics are also supported by PLT Tools.
Our NONMEM Workshops are now in their 8th year. Dennis Fisher and I spent
the past five years developing PLT Tools. We introduced PLT Tools in 2009
and have introduced new features in each subsequent workshop. The feedback
from these courses is that workshop participants learned advanced NONMEM
analysis and diagnostic approaches quickly by using PLT Tools.

Participants are encouraged to consider two introductory workshops on
Tuesday, October 30th (the day preceding the workshop):
. Introduction to R: "Data Manipulation" (Tuesday morning) and
"Statistics and Graphics" (Tuesday afternoon). R is a powerful statistical
programming language. You do not need to know R to take the NONMEM
Workshop, but R is an invaluable tool for preparing data files, performing
statistical analysis, and preparing graphs.
. Introduction to NONMEM (Tuesday afternoon): Participants who would
like to brush up on NONMEM before starting the workshop on Wednesday are
encouraged to attend this half-day session.
Participants interested in additional training in PLT Tools can sign up for
a half-day course devoted to PLT Tools we give on the afternoon of the last
day (Saturday, November 3rd). The Saturday workshop covers PLT Tools in
greater detail, focusing on examples in which PLT Tools handles types of
data analysis that are unwieldy if one attempts to work directly with
NONMEM.
