Postdoctoral Fellowship: Translational pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic
modelling in the Alzheimers Disease area-SOD000001AN
Description
AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the
research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription
pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services. But we're more than one
of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to
have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration.
Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to
feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
The arena
We have an exciting opportunity for a modelling and simulation scientist to
join the Neuroscience (CNS & Pain) Innovative Medicines (iMED) department.
There you will embark on a research project in translational modelling in the
Alzheimers Disease area, by investigating how to predict outcomes in the clinic
from pre-clinical data on the basis of developing mechanistic
pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic models to describe the physiological mechanisms
and drug effects. The work will investigate how modelling approaches can help
to bridge between pre-clinical efficacy models and the clinic. This important
research will be based upon available preclinical and clinical data from and
will contribute to the development of future therapies for Alzheimer's Disease.
Your activities will be centred on developing new translational pharmacokinetic
and pharmacodynamic models, validating them and expanding their application
within the Neuroscience drug discovery and development process. Your scientific
research will also give you the opportunity to work with (and influence) fellow
scientists across many other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the
results of your novel research in-house via global working groups and
externally via meetings and through publications.
The role's major responsibilities
* Develop a modelling approach to describe, explain and predict
(pre-)clinical data in the Alzheimer's Disease area
* Develop skills in Neuroscience modelling and understanding of the drug
discovery/development process
* Show strong initiative in developing ideas, and bringing them to
functional use within AstraZeneca.
* Interface with scientists from across many disciplines while at the
same time being able to work independently.
* Communicate results both within AstraZeneca via global working groups
and externally at meetings and through publications.
* Work collaboratively with other experts within DMPK, Neuroscience and
Clinical organization
* Publish scientific papers describing the PK and PKPD of projects as
well as novel PK and PKPD methods and approaches
* Create a vibrant and innovative working environment where improvements
and new ideas are adopted and freely shared among the teams
Minimum experience
* A PhD, or a first degree with at least 5 years experience, in one or
more of the following areas:
* Pharmacokinetic or pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modelling,
physiologically based pharmacokinetic modelling or systems biology modelling
* Neuropharmacology with experience in quantitative analysis
* Mathematical modelling with experience in modelling biological data.
Preferred experience/requirements
* Application of specialist in tools such as WinNonLin, NonMem, Berkeley
Madonna, acslX and SIMCYP
* Understanding of DMPK and pharmacology/safety aspects of drug discovery
and development
* Good team working and networking skills.
* Ability to coach other scientists.
* Able to demonstrate the drive and energy to deliver projects.
* Demonstrate a high degree of personal credibility.
* Work collaboratively.
* Good communication skills.
