Description Development of a haematopoiesis model that can be used for
translational clinical predictions of bone marrow toxicity. We're currently
looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc,
on a 2 year Fixed Term Contract. From our centre in Cambridge, UK, you'll be in
a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from
the start. You'll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a
focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing
Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research
in cutting edge laboratories. It's a newly expanding programme spanning a range
of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.
What's more, you'll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who'll
provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career.
This is an exciting area that hasn't been explored to its full potential,
making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical
science.
About AstraZeneca
AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that
focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription
medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than
one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're
proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and
collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives -
and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and
creativity.
Therapy Area
One of the greatest challenges when discovering and formulating effective
medicines lies in mapping their pharmacokinetic properties - how they'll react
within the human body. Here, you'll ensure our drug products are safe for
clinical trials, and ultimately safe to deliver as novel treatments to our
patients. To make that happen, you'll be working with truly cutting-edge in
silico, in vivo, cellular and molecular technologies to push the boundaries of
predictive science.
Role Description
If you're keen to help improve effectiveness of anti-cancer therapies this Post
Doc will give you the opportunity to investigate how stem cell biology gives
rise to regeneration of adult tissues and develop mechanistic understanding of
Oncology agents' toxicity.
As a Postdoctoral Scientist in DSM it's essential that you have:
* A PhD in relevant discipline, such as Biological Engineering, Systems
Biology, Biology, Maths, Engineering or Physics
* Experience with model building software like Matlab or Berkeley
Madonna
* A proven record of publication in reputable scientific journals
* Hands-on experience with quantitative techniques like systems biology
or systems pharmacology
* The confidence to creatively explore alternative modelling approaches
The following skills and qualifications are desirable:
* Knowledge of cancer biology, including DNA damage response and
apoptosis pathways
* A firm understanding of the haematopoiesis process
* Experience of modelling cell populations such as stem cells, cellular
differentiation or cell cycle
* Expertise in drug toxicology, immunological techniques or flow
cytometry
As a Postdoctoral Scientist in DSM you will:
* Quantify the impact of Oncology drugs and drug combinations on bone
marrow cell populations and assess how this impacts blood cell count
* Optimise oncology therapies to translate preclinical findings into
human models
* Collaborate with other experts in a wide range of areas and fields
