The Otago Pharmacometrics Group at the University of Otago invites applications
from motivated students interested in pursuing a PhD in pharmacometrics.
Pharmacometrics is concerned with the analysis and interpretation of
pharmacological data. The aim is to enhance the quantitative understanding of
how drug treatments impact human biology and to improve outcomes for patients.
Our group conducts research in three broad areas;
1. Systems pharmacology
2. PKPD modelling
3. Clinical Pharmacology
Our research involves national and international collaborations with other
universities, clinicians, clinical pharmacologists and industrial partners in
New Zealand, the UK, Australia, the United States and elsewhere. Current
therapeutic areas include: coagulation, musculoskeletal diseases, renal drug
clearance, inflammatory bowel disease, and malaria.
Our students come from all over the world and have a wide range of backgrounds
including; pharmacy, pharmacology, population modelling, systems biology,
engineering, and statistics. Successful applicants will hold a bachelor's
degree (Hons) or equivalent, or a master's degree in pharmacy, pharmacology,
statistics, engineering, medical science or a related subject.
PhD places are conditional upon successful candidates obtaining a Postgraduate
Scholarship.
Please contact Professor Stephen Duffull or Dr Daniel Wright for further
information. Please include a copy of your CV and academic transcript, the
names of two referees, and a brief outline (max. 250 words) of your research
