MUFPADA - Meeting Announcement

From: Steve Olson Date: March 11, 1994 technical
******************MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT********************* The Second Annual Midwest Users Forum for Population Approaches in Data Analysis will be held in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the 12th and 13th of May, 1994. This meeting is intended to provide a forum for the discussion of all aspects of population data analysis in an open and informal atmosphere. The first meeting held in Indianapolis this past April was highly successful and set the tone for this series as a delightfully interactive discussion of the trials and tribulations of population data analysis. Attendees are encouraged to step forward with specific analyses or issues for podium presentation. It should be recognized that these presentations serve as a spring board for extended discussion. Generally, themes (e.g., mixed effect models, neural networks, simulations, etc.) are of common interest and concern to all those involved in the implementation of population approaches in data analysis or the interpretation of results derived from such analyses. The setting for this years forum is Ann Arbor, a short 5 hour drive from the Indianapolis/Cincinnati region. If you choose to fly, Ann Arbor is just 30 minutes from Detroit's International Airport. Depending on your arrival time, the complimentary Sheraton shuttle service may be arranged through Rhonda Reimann (Parke-Davis: 313-996-7044). Much of the University of Michigan campus, as well as a number of restaurants, bars, and night spots, will be just a few minutes away. For those wishing to take advantage of stay-through- Saturday super-saver airline fares, we are planning a golf outing at one of the local courses (site, and therefore cost, to be determined by participation level). Club rental will be available to those who wish to golf but don't bring their own clubs. For less frustrating recreation, a large regional shopping mall is within walking distance or, if there is sufficient interest, we will arrange a trip (transportation provided) to the popular Greenfield Village ($10) and Henry Ford Museum ($10) in Dearborn. The meeting will be held at the Ann Arbor Sheraton Inn (1-800-848- 2770), and a block of rooms has been reserved there at $57 per night. A full breakfast is included in the room charge. Please identify yourself as a MUFPADA attendee when reserving your room (must reserve by April 18 to receive discounted rate). A hospitality suite will be open from 5 to 9 Thursday evening. Join us to renew old acquaintances and make new ones before heading out for dinner. Meeting registration ($75) also includes lunch and two refreshment breaks on Friday. The registration form (request from sources below) also serves as a call for papers. Those interested in sharing an experience should plan on approximately 30 minutes for presentation and 15 to 30 minutes for general discussion. Generally, success stories are presented, but if individuals wish to bring a specific issue or problem into focus for discussion, the forum will most likely respond with a multitude of opinions. Please provide some information about your topic and one of the organizers will contact you for specifics. Final program will be determined by the number of presentations volunteered and will be forwarded to all participants together with additional information and maps in advance of the meeting.
