Position Summary: The Pharmacometrics group in Shanghai provides
expertise and capacity as an integral part of Pharmacometrics (along
with existing groups in Groton, CT; La Jolla, CA, New York, NYC,
Collegeville, PA, Cambridge, MA and Sandwich, UK). The major goal of
Pharmacometrics is to improve drug development efficiency by
quantitatively linking preclinical models of disease with clinical
outcome through mechanistic approaches and applying these models
prospectively in decision-making.
This role will be responsible for managing and leading the China group.
Organizational Relationships:
* Report to Global Head of Pharmacometrics
* Be an integral part of global Clinical Pharmacology and
Pharmacometrics organization
* Works collaboratively with China R&D Center (CRDC), and as a
leadership team member of CRDC. Also works collaboratively with China
Pfizer Country Office to establish optimal rapport between Global
Clinical Pharmacology & Pharmacometrics organization and country
offices.
* Partner with the clinicians and statisticians at CRDC or
global lines
Resources Managed:
* Manage team members within the group
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include the use of innovative analytical methods to
integrate knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamic, patient
characteristics and disease states to optimize dosing, clinical program
designs and decision making. Specifically this will include:
* Building non-compartmental analysis (NCA) and Population PK
internal capacities at CRDC, including recruiting and training staff, in
collaboration with Global Clinical Pharmacology/Pharmacometrics
* Work both as a leader/mentor for other colleagues and also as
an individual contributor to deliver population PK and PK-PD analyses.
Grow, mange and lead the CRDC group, and build an engaging culture
* Partner with clinicians, statisticians and broader development
colleagues at CRDC to promote and apply quantitative methodologies to
support local and regional clinical development
* Maintain and strengthen the partnership with other CRDC
function lines, Pfizer China Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs,
Worldwide Research and Development and Pfizer Business Units to support
Pfizer business in China
* Partner with global teams to support internal initiatives to
enhance our understanding of ethnic differences in PK and PD, and
facilitate regional and/or global drug development
* Partner with leading academic institutions in Beijing and
Seoul to maintain and strengthen the established Pfizer modeling &
simulation education centers, and assist in the development of Clinical
Pharmacology/Pharmacometrics talent in Asia
* Engage regulatory agencies and leading academic societies of
Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics in China, in order to provide
training e.g., workshops and symposiums, to develop local Clinical
Pharmacology/ Pharmacometrics talents and capabilities, influence and
shape the external landscape, and maintain and strengthen Pfizer's
leadership position in the use of quantitative approaches
Qualifications (Training, Education & Prior Experience):
* A doctorate degree in pharmaceutical sciences or
statistics/mathematics or related discipline.
* Must have an extensive modeling and simulation skill set
covering aspects of the following: design and analysis of
pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies, proficiency in application
of nonlinear mixed effects models, application of mechanistic PK-PD
models, disease progression modelling , meta-data models utilising
internal and external sources, strong statistical skills, clinical
trial design using principles of optimal design and trial simulation and
understanding of Bayesian theory in decision theory/ trial design.
* Candidates must also posses' very good skills in the use of
several specialized statistical analytical and programming software such
as NONMEM, R, SAS, Winbugs etc as well as good written and oral
communication skills.
* Candidates should have previous management experience.
Technical Competency:
* Scientific excellence - Proven record of achievement in
academic and/or pharmaceutical research
* PK-PD modeling and simulation - Hands on experience in the
analysis and reporting of population PK and PK-PD studies using NONMEM
and other pertinent software (e.g. SAS, SPlus, etc).
* Communication skills - Strong oral and written communication
skills in English.
* Management skills - Able to manage other clinical pharmacology
scientists, motivate colleagues and meet agreed upon goals and timelines
