FWORK ERROR

From: Ramalingam Sankaran sankaram@Stanford.Edu Subject: [NMusers] FWORK ERROR Date: Thu, March 11, 2004 2:01 pm Hi All! Will somebody please comment on the following error message: "an error was found in the control statements. The characters in error are : FWORK 36 error has occured while creating the required files" The very same control file worked just fine when I had only one individual but NONMEM figured this error when the number of individuals went up to 12. Does it have something to do with the number of individuals? I think not ,because my data are from merely 12 patients with their plasma drug concentrations ,doses EVID, and MDVs. Interestingly, only one another NONMEM user has sent in a similar help-call in the Users forum way back in 2001, but unfortunately I could not find any replies for that. I hope someone replies this time and guys like me would stand clarified on this issue. Thanks Ram

From: Bachman, William (MYD) bachmanw@iconus.com Subject: RE:[NMusers] FWORK ERROR Date: Thu, March 11, 2004 2:36 pm In my experience, that error message has been associated with an improper NONMEM installation or a compiler bug. If you can run the control5 test program "nmfe5 control5 report5.txt" without this error, you can be assured that NONMEM is installed correctly and that the error is not due to having 12 individuals in the data set. nmconsult@globomaxnm.com GloboMax The Strategic Pharmaceutical Development Division of ICON plc 7250 Parkway Drive, Suite 430 Hanover, MD 21076 Voice: (410) 782-2205 FAX: (410) 712-0737

From: Ramalingam Sankaran sankaram@Stanford.Edu Subject: RE:[NMusers] FWORK ERROR Date: Sun, March 14, 2004 4:09 pm Hi ! Thanks very much for the only response that I had. As was sugessted,I tried running control5 and it was successful. So, going by what was said, it is neither improper installation nor an issue of number being 12 individuals. Sadly, there is no mention of this error in the on-line help or in the printed manuals, at least as far as I can search and see. Here is the recalcitrant and mysterious error once again ""an error was found in the control statements. The characters in error are : FWORK 36 error has occured while creating the required files" For those who are reading this message for the first time, let me restate that the the control stream worked just fine when I pulled out 11 patients out of the data-set but the moment all the 12 patients were in , this error message flashed. In fact, when I added just one more individual and took it up to two, this error message came on. I await some guidance from the group. Thanks Ram

If the information is not proprietary, you may want to supply the control stream and the two person data file to allow someone to reproduce the issue.

The error message you provide suggests an operating system problem rather than a problem with NONMEM. -- Zip file attachments have .gz extension.
