Dick,
There are no references that I can give you for ADVAN4 per se. As with any ADVAN, you can include the code
ALAG1=THETA(x)
then doses into compartment 1 (in this case, the depot) are lagged by the amount given by theta(x).
As a test, fix the initial estimate of this theta to 0. Now the results should be identical to what they were before the ALAG1 parameter was introduced.
