Kind regards Erwin Project The research group of Prof. Erwin Dreesen in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences of KU Leuven (Belgium) is engaged in drug development, drug repurposing, and precision dosing projects for infectious diseases, chronic immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, oncology, and transplantation. We develop and apply pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics models, focussing on identifying optimal treatment regimens. We seek a PhD candidate with exceptional promise in interdisciplinary research and expertise and theoretical knowledge of pharmacometrics, (bio)statistics, applied mathematics, and drug development. Research During your PhD trajectory, you will develop innovative pharmacometrics models that integrate clinical trial and real-world data, evaluate and implement new statistical approaches, and contribute to establishing our pharmacometrics infrastructure. The exact project will be defined depending on the candidate's interest and expertise and the research group's needs. Candidates interested in pursuing more methodological topics (relevant to the clinical-pharmacological interest of the research group) will be encouraged to do so. In addition, you will be expected to write scientific papers and present your research results at international conferences. Teaching During your PhD track, you will be assigned a didactic role within the chemistry oriented teaching practical courses of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where you will teach and supervise students (the PhD position is linked to an assistantship). Profile * The candidate holds a Master degree in pharmacy/(bio)pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacometrics, (bio)statistics, applied mathematics, (bio)engineering, (bio)medical sciences, or a related discipline, and has a strong interest in pharmacometrics research. * Hands-on experience in a pharmacometrics research group (e.g. Master thesis) is preferred but not essential. * Experience with data analysis and pharmacometrics modelling software tools (e.g. R, NONMEM, SAS) is a definite plus. * The candidate must be proficient in oral and written English. The position includes a substantial amount of teaching duties at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. * The candidate will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, including frequent interactions with external researchers. Therefore, the candidate must have excellent communication skills, a team-player attitude, and multi-tasking skills. * The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, motivated, independent, strategic, proactive, and results-driven. * The candidate is fascinated by education and didactics; in addition to the research project described above, the candidate is expected to actively participate in the supervision of practical exercises (±450h on an annual basis) in the framework of the courses organised by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and to guide students during their master thesis. Offer * The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences and is expected to obtain a PhD degree. * This PhD position is linked to an assistantship in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, situated in a stimulating environment at a top European university in a well-equipped, experienced and internationally oriented research group. * The Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences is part of the Group of Biomedical Sciences of the KU Leuven and is located at the Health Sciences Campus Gasthuisberg. * This initial full-time two-year PhD position can be extended to a total duration of six years maximum.
