ISoP Diversity & Inclusion Committee - applications open for Chair
Dear All,
Six weeks ago we pledged to review ISoP’s bylaws and procedures to ensure that
our policies remain consistent with maintaining inclusivity, diversity,
fairness, and equity on the Board, its SIGs, committees and working groups, our
meetings, and all ISoP activities. We also announced our intention to create an
Inclusion & Equity Committee, which will advise the Executive Committee and
Board of Directors, to ensure that we continue to live and work by our beliefs
as a Society and that we maintain diversity, fairness, equity and inclusivity
within the organization. Today, we open a call for applications to chair this
committee.
The Chair will first draft a charter for review and endorsement by the Board,
before setting the starting agenda and direction for the Committee, including
new initiatives and activities and recruiting its members. The Chair and the
Committee will advise the Board in addition to leading initiatives, and will
liaise with other ISoP groups (including committees, special interest groups,
working groups and local groups) to ensure ISoP’s core values and beliefs, as
outlined above, are safeguarded. The position is volunteer and unpaid, as it is
for all scientific office-bearers of the Society. It is open to all regardless
of geographical location, although excellent English communication skills are
essential. The applicant need not be a member of ISoP – the position will be
independent and advisory in nature. Seniority is not necessarily an advantage,
although the applicant must have completed their studies. The successful
applicant should be confident in expressing their position but, since they will
be representing a group, must be equally comfortable reflecting a consensus
opinion.
We are looking for someone with energy, commitment and, above all, passion to
drive positive change and to be an advocate for our values both in our society
and in the larger community. The Chair will provide regular updates on the
Committee’s activities to the Board and to the President, and is expected to
communicate directly with the membership on occasion, by both written means
(such as email or social media) and by direct address (by participation in
webinars or speaking at scientific meetings, for example) to communicate the
Committee’s activities and positions. A Committee Chair holds their position
for 1-2 years.
Applications will be open for one month from today (closing 7 September 2020),
and should be sent by email to [email protected]. Your application should
include the following:
* A one-page motivation for the position, in which you describe your
vision for it, what it would aim to accomplish in its first year, your relevant
leadership experience, and why you believe you’d be a good candidate; and
* A recent CV.
We hope to hear from you!
