Reminder: Dr. Friedrich's webinar next week
Developing Models that are Fit for Purpose — A Model Qualification Method

This is a reminder that Dr. Friedrich's webinar Developing Models that are Fit
for Purpose — A Model Qualification Method will take place on October 17, 2011
at 1:00 pm EDT (GMT -5:00). This talk will summarize the state of the art
modeling tools intended for pharmacometric applications in drug development.
Mechanistic physiological (“PhysioPD™”) models are graphical and mathematical
representations of biology and therapeutic interventions. Strategic use of
PhysioPD models and associated virtual patients and experiments can greatly
enrich and reduce risk in the drug development process. Relevant models
provide critical information and insights for making go/no go decisions, but
positive program impact requires that decision-makers have confidence in the
model. The model qualification process is specifically designed to instill
confidence in mechanistic physiologic models.
In this webinar, Dr. Friedrich will delineate characteristic features of
mechanistic physiological models and show some examples. She will then
introduce the Model Qualification Method (MQM), which defines concrete criteria
for assessing model quality, building confidence, and ensuring buy-in. The MQM
provides a basis for using model-based research to impact program decisions.
The purpose of the “Impact” series is to foster the use of M&S activities in
all phases of drug development by illustrating the advantages and enhancing the
applicability of M&S in product discovery, development, and marketing programs.
The series is intended for drug development project team members from discovery
to phase 4 clinical trials. This includes pharmacologists, ADME scientists,
PK/PD modelers, clinical pharmacologists, clinical development team members,
regulatory affairs specialists, and other interested professionals.
