processing simultaneous infusion

Dear all, I am student and just started working with NONMEM. At the moment I’m still preparing my datasheet, in which I have one particular issue that I do not know how to solve: During surgery the patients from my dataset received an infusion with a certain rate, but sometimes an extra infusion (for only 5 to 10 seconds, administered at a different site) is given on top of the first infusion. How can I best describe/present these events in my datasheet? Can I just simply add it to the infusion AMT, as I have done in the sheet below? Here, I presume that the first infusion still continues for one hour. TIME (min)AMT (mg)RATE (mg/min) TYPED EVENT 0.00 200 3.33 First infusion starts 10.00 . . Some event not of importance to AMT or RATE 15.00 40 240 Extra infusion of 40 mg in 10 sec. 40.00 . . Some event not of importance to AMT or RATE 60.00 . . Stopping the (first) infusion Or should I 'stop' the first infusion after 15 minutes, add the amount of the first infusion to the extra infused amount during the period of extra infusion (creating an extra TYPED EVENT), and then again start the first infusion at the moment the extra infusion stops (at 15.17 minutes)? TIME (min) AMT (mg) RATE (mg/min) TYPED EVENT 0.00 50 3.33 First infusion starts 10.00 . . Some event not of importance to AMT or RATE 15.00 0.56+40 242.85 Extra infusion of 40 mg in 10 sec or 1/6 min. 15.17 149.44 3.33 Starting first infusion again. 40.00 . . Some event not of importance to AMT or RATE 60.00 . . Stopping the (first) infusion Or is there another way of processing these simultaneous infusions the right way? Has anybody worked with this way of infusing, who might give me a few hints on this problem? Thank you in advance and best regards, Margreke Brill
