RE: What does $SUPER do?
A good place to start is using the HTML nmhelp files and look up SUPER.
You'll find a page describing the $SUPER record and links to examples
using SUPER:
$SUPER <file:///C:/nm6q/html/$super.htm>
Initialization-Finalization block <file:///C:/nm6q/html/initfinl.htm>
NMPR15 <file:///C:/nm6q/html/nmpr15.htm>
Superproblem_1 example <file:///C:/nm6q/html/super1.htm>
Superproblem_2 example <file:///C:/nm6q/html/super2.htm>

Subject: [NMusers] What does $SUPER do?
I am needing to run multiple NONMEM jobs in a simulation study to look
at the effects of various kinds of model misspecification. Does $SUPER
allow me to set up multiple NONMEM estimation steps that each access
different datafiles or different parts of one datafile? Or does $SUPER
have some other purpose?
